Walking Together: Into the Heart of Oregon

A two-week backpacking style pilgrimage that includes two, three-day Zen Sesshin within the wilderness of the Oregon Coast. Partial attendance possible. Please communicate with Soten prior to registration to discuss if this event is appropriate for you: 503-308-3139

The Wilderness is our home. We have constructed barriers within it, but they are all temporary. How might we improve our relationship with the natural world in generations to come? Where does civilization end, and nature begin? Retreat is an opportunity to feel deeply into such questions…

This trail starts in Corvallis, and heads upward into the Oregon Coast range through active logging forest, 25 mi of National Forest, rural Oregonian towns, campgrounds, farms, and includes a summit of Mary’s Peak. Each walking day will include morning and evening meditation, chanting services, and a rotation of meditation instruction, dharma talks, Q & A or council process. Walking will sometimes be done in silence and sometimes not. This event will also include two, three-day intensive Zen style silent Sesshins at Mary’s Peak Campground and at Big Elk Campground. This event will take place along the Corvallis to Coast Trail. Be prepared to cover 10-15 miles per day. Although frequent food drops will lessen weight, carrying several days worth of personal and communal supplies will be required. Previous backpacking and extended meditation retreat experience are highly recommended.
